Mayor encourages Bay Area shoppers to buy in SF

More than 40,000 San Franciscans are out of work, but Mayor Gavin Newsom is still asking them to shop this holiday. After all, consumer spending is one the things that can pull the economy out of the doldrums.

To be sure, Newsom launched The City’s “Shop SF, Get More” incentive program this winter for San Francisco and Bay Area residents. This citywide program offers special discounts and promotions exclusively for residents of the nine Bay Area counties through January.

In order to encourage local and Bay Area residents to shop and buy in San Francisco this holiday season, “Shop SF, Get More” includes a slew of discounts and promotions, including reduced rates, complimentary parking and breakfast, and a variety of discounted holiday packages at local hotels.

“We’re working together to give a lift to our local businesses and employers this holiday season and help drive our local economic recovery,” Newsom said. “Whether you’re shopping in Union Square or our neighborhood small businesses, ‘Shop SF, Get More’ showcases our city’s world-class dining, museums, events, attractions and hotels.”
