Presidio events: Memorial Day events include a Presidio parade followed by a formal program and 21-gun salute at the San Francisco National Cemetery. History tour: A free walking tour explores the statues, plaques and trees in Golden Gate Park that commemorate important people and events in American history, including military monuments. [1 p.m., meet in front of Conservatory of Flowers, 100 John F Kennedy Drive, S.F.]

Rock party: The El Rio's 20th anniversary Memorial Day bash includes bluesy Bay Area supergroup Mojo Rising with free barbecue on the patio who supplies last. [3 p.m., El Rio, 3158 Mission St., S.F.]

Fiction in the works: Mercilee Jenkins, Diane Frank, Joe Sutton and other San Francisco writers are sharing their works in progress. [7 p.m., Folio Books, 3957 24th St., S.F.]

Art appreciation: The Cantor Arts Center is open today, featuring exhibits such as "Promised Land: Jacob Lawrence at the Cantor" and "500 Years of Italian Master Drawings from the Princeton University Art Museum." Local activities
