Massive steel woman could stay put in Hayes Valley

The 28-foot-tall steel sculpture of a woman arching her back at Hayes and Octavia streets, said to be gazing wistfully into an open sky, could keep staring for the rest of the year.

Dan Das Mann and Karen Cusolito's sculpture of “Ecstasy’’ was supposed to come down in June, but the Hayes Valley Art Coalition has asked the Recreation and Park Commission if it can stay through December.

The commission originally approved the 12 x 12 footprint last year, and they’ll decide on the extension at their regular meeting this Thursday.
