Marshall ends season early; too few bodies

Marshall football coach Mitch Oster said the Phoenix would be forced to cancel today’s season finale against Lincoln due to a lack of available players.

"There had been too many missed practices by too much of the team and we decided we’d have to discipline those kids," Oster said. "That left us below a level we felt comfortable playing with."

With the win, Lincoln improves to 9-2 overall and 6-1 in Academic Athletic Association and awaits word on who it will face in the first round of the league playoffs next week.

Marshall ends its year at 0-7, but Oster saw some bright spots in his first year at the school.

"I think this season proved that football is viable and can exist at Thurgood Marshall," Oster said. "I told the kids that [Thursday] was the first day of practice for next year and we had a dozen players show up in the locker room in the morning ready to go."
