Marshall Elementary advances to state competition

Step aside, March Madness.

A team of fourth- and fifth-grade students from Marshall Elementary School that is competing in a problem-solving competition has advanced to the March 27 state tournament.

The team won the San Francisco Bay regional tournament in their division last weekend, an event involving more than 141 teams.

The squad reportedly dazzled a panel of judges during the problem solving competition. They solved the “Food Court” problem by performing a “food parody of Shakespeare’s Hamlet,” team supporters said.

“The team was inspired by a CalShakes performance of Hamlet at the school this fall,” supporters said.

The team will represent the school, The City and the region at the state tournament, which will be held in Brentwood.
