Market close: SunPower, Apple hit hard 

The hits just keep on happening on Wall Street and tech stocks were hit hardest. San Jose's SunPower Corporation (SPWR) fell 13.27 points (9.35 percent) to close at 128.66 and Cupertino's Apple Inc. (AAPL) lost 10.10 points (5.75 percent) to close at 165.37.

The top performers among Bay Area stocks tracked by The Examiner were Santa Clara-based Applied Materials, Inc. (AMAT), which gained 0.8 points (4.47 percent) to close at 18.71 and San Jose-based eBay, Inc. (EBAY), which gained 1.06 points (3.27 percent) to close at 33.46.

The Dow Jones industrial average ended a turbulent week with another huge drop, falling 223.55 points to close at 13,042.74 while the Nasdaq dropped 68.06 points to close at 2,627.94.
