Market close: Sun Microsystems down 

Wall Street closed an uneasy session lower Wednesday. Sun Microsystems, Inc. (JAVA) fell 5.88 percent, the largest drop among the local stocks tracked by the Examiner. Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO) dropped 3.95 percent and VMware, Inc. (VMW) fell 3.87 percent.

SunPower Corp. (SPWR) climbed 6.90 percent, and BEA Systems, Inc. (BEAS) rose 3.02 percent.

Shares of Intel Corp. (INTC) traded at the highest volume, with 62.5 million exchanged.

The Dow fell 83.16 points to close at 13,223.93, the Nasdaq dropped 29.33 to 2,644.32 and the S&P 500 fell 10.47 to 1,470.58.

In stock-related news, reports that Apple Inc. (AAPL) was in talks to bring the iPhone to China led shares of China Unicom and China Mobile, the mainland’s two biggest mobile service companies, to surge in Hong Kong on Wednesday, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Google Inc. (GOOG) said it is "disappointed" by the European Commission’s decision yesterday to open an in-depth investigation into the online search giant’s proposed acquisition of online advertising company DoubleClick, according to Forbes.
