Man who escaped San Francisco County Jail captured

The man who escaped from San Francisco County Jail two weeks ago was found in South of Market on Tuesday, the Sheriff’s Department announced.

Timothy Midgett, 40, of San Francisco escaped from 850 Bryant St. on June 7 as he was taking out the trash as part of his inmate worker assignment, Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi said.

On Tuesday, deputies received a call that Midgett was at a homeless shelter at 525 Fifth St., Mirkarimi said, and were able to detain him. Calls for comment to the homeless shelter were not returned Wednesday.

He was booked back into jail on a no-bail warrant for one felony count of escape, Mirkarimi said. He will also have to complete his original sentence.

Midgett was set for release July 24.

The Sheriff’s Department also issued an arrest warrant for a former inmate who they believe aided Midgett in his escape, Mirkarimi said. That suspect’s name is being withheld due to an ongoing investigation.
