Man trapped under BART train taken to hospital

A person who was trapped underneath a BART train at the Embarcadero station has been rescued from the tracks and taken to a hospital.

No information was available about the condition of the person, but a BART spokesman said the victim, a man in his 20s, was attempting suicide.

The train struck the man at around 2:30 p.m. and was headed toward the East Bay.

BART and Muni underground traffic was affected until about 3:45 p.m., when trains started moving through the station again.

Muni was halted at Embarcadero station for about 20 minutes and F-Market service was also affected, but service has resumed.

On May 30, a woman was trapped under a train at the Rockridge station in Oakland and was able to be pulled out alive. Muni had two fatalities in two days in late April. On April 21, a man walked out into the intersection of Mission and Beale streets and was killed by a 14-Mission bus. The next day, a woman was struck and killed by an L-Taraval train at the Castro Street station.
