Man stabbed on Embarcadero expected to survive

A man who was critically injured in a stabbing on The Embarcadero early Sunday morning is expected to survive, police Officer Gordon Shyy said, and a suspect in the stabbing is in custody.

Boyd Craft, 54, who is reportedly homeless, was arrested on charges of attempted homicide, Shyy said.

The 26-year-old victim was reportedly walking in the area of The Embarcadero and Folsom Street with his wife about 1:47 a.m. looking for a cab, Shyy said, when he apparently got involved in an argument with Craft.

The victim's wife had stepped away from him briefly to call for a cab and when she came back, she saw he had been stabbed multiple times in the torso area, Shyy said.

When police arrived, aid was rendered to the victim and he was hospitalized with critical injuries. His condition has improved since then and he is expected to survive.

Craft was located in the area shortly after the incident and had multiple knives in his possession, Shyy said.
