Man shot to death while riding bicycle in Richmond

A man who was fatally shot while riding his bicycle in south Richmond on Monday afternoon has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as 20-year-old Alvin Torres.

Torres was on his bicycle near the intersection of Seventh Street and Florida Avenue when someone ran up to him and shot him, Richmond police Sgt. Bisa French said.

Torres died at the scene.

The gunman was described only as a black man between 18 and 22 years old wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. He fled the scene on foot.

Police believe Torres was targeted, but haven’t yet determined a motive for the shooting, French said.

Investigators were continuing to interview witnesses Tuesday.
