A man was shot inside his vehicle Thursday night after being approached by another man on the street asking him for drugs in the Bayview neighborhood, police said.

According to San Francisco police Officer Carlos Manfredi, the victim, an unidentified 31-year-old man, was in his car at the intersection of Jennings Street and Revere Avenue around 8:20 p.m. Thursday.

A suspect approached the car and asked if the victim had any “weight,” a slang term for drugs, police said, and the victim replied that he did not. At this response, the suspect reached in the car and grabbed the victim and shot him. The victim then exited the vehicle and ran down the 1600 block of Jennings Street when he collapsed, Manfredi said.

The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead roughly an hour later. The killing is The City's second homicide of the year.

The suspect, described as a male in his mid-20s with a thin build, was last seen wearing a red sweatshirt.

Police are investigating the incident. It is not believed to be gang-related, Manfredi said.
