Man robbed of phones, diamond ring on Market Street before being beaten

A man was robbed at gunpoint at Market Street and Van Ness Avenue early Wednesday morning, police said.

The 35-year-old victim was walking on Market Street about 2:30 a.m. playing with his cellphone when two armed men, who appeared to be in their 30s, confronted him and demanded he get down on his knees and give up his property, police said.

The victim turned over two cellphones, a diamond ring and a backpack containing miscellaneous items.

The suspects started to walk away, but then turned around and headed back toward the victim to pistol-whip him in the head and kick him in the stomach. They then fled.

The victim refused medical treatment at the scene.

No arrests have been made.
