Man robbed of cellphone, then tased and beaten in SoMa

A man whose cellphone was snatched while he was inside a South of Market cafe Tuesday was later shocked with a stun gun and assaulted by up to six youths, police said.

The 56-year-old victim was inside a coffee shop at Fourth and Mission streets about 7 p.m. when a boy who appeared to be about 16 snatched the victim's cellphone from his hand and took off.

The man ran after the young crook but was met by six other juvenile suspects. They hit him with the stun gun in the back and then punched and kicked him before fleeing in different directions, police said.

The man complained of pain to his head and body, but the injuries were minor.
