Man on bike hit in face with baseball bat in the Tenderloin 

A man was knocked off his bike by a man with a baseball bat in an attempted robbery in the Tenderloin on Saturday, police said.

The 31-year-old victim was riding his bike near the intersection of Eddy and Polk streets about 12:30 a.m. when a man who appeared to be in his 30s struck the victim in the face with a baseball bat, police said. The bat-wielding thug then patted down the victim's pockets before fleeing empty-handed.

The victim sustained injuries to his head, face and neck. He was hospitalized, but his injuries were not life-threatening.
