Man in court for allegedly impregnating 12-year-old daughter

A Redwood City man who allegedly impregnated his 12-year-old daughter is scheduled to appear in court this afternoon for a pre-trial hearing.

About five years ago, according to prosecutors, 40-year-old Manuel Jacinto brought his daughter to San Mateo Medical Center for an abortion. The hospital called police, and officers were told by both Jacinto and his daughter that a 12-year-old boy named Giovanni was the father, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

Investigators were suspicious of the story and asked Jacinto to provide a DNA sample. He fled to Guatemala, Wagstaffe said, where he was captured by a Redwood City police detective who had been working with Guatemalan authorities.

While Jacinto was in Guatemala, the 12-year-old girl allegedly admitted to police that her father had had sex with her multiple times and had also impregnated her.

Jacinto, who pleaded not guilty to the charges in December, remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail, Wagstaffe said.
