Man found dead in Page Street flat identified

The body found dead inside a Haight Ashbury district aparment early Monday morning was identified by authorities on Wednesday as that of Joshua Glasser, 26.

Dennis Oliver, the resident of the apartment on the 1900 block of Page Street, told police he stumbled over the dead body about 1:40 a.m. Monday after returning from a two-week vacation to Humboldt County.

Oliver, an artist, said he had smelled a foul odor when he entered the dark apartment. Fleeing without looking at the man’s face, Olivertold police the body could have been that of a cat sitter who had access to his apartment while he was out of town. He also told police that the head was covered with a bag. Police later found that Glasser’s body was also naked and handcuffed.

Police said they had not yet determined if the case is a homicide.

"Based on the medical examiner’s conclusion on the cause of death, we’ll be able to determine if this was a homicide," police Sgt. Neville Gittens said.
