A man was critically injured Monday night in a shooting in the Mid-Market Street area, Officer Albie Esparza said.

The 25-year-old victim reportedly became involved in an altercation with an unknown suspect in the 100 block of Mason Street about 10:25 p.m. before the suspect began chasing the victim, firing at him, Esparza said.

The victim was shot multiple times in the upper body and hand, Esparza said. He was taken to the hospital and is currently in critical condition.

There was little suspect description provided to police, Esparza said. Most of the witnesses at the scene told police they only heard the incident before they saw the suspect running away.

Witnesses told police that the suspect was wearing a dark, thermal shirt and gray jeans, Esparza said. They also said that he fled in a silver SUV.

No arrest was reported as of Tuesday.
