Man charged with elder abuse, robbery of 92-year-old man

A San Francisco man has been charged with elder abuse in connection with the violent robbery of a 92-year-old man at an ATM machine on Wednesday.

Cops hauled-in 39-year-old Saaga Saaga on Friday after reviewing surveillance video footage that recorded the cowardly robbery.

The elderly man was attacked from behind after he withdrew cash from the ATM in the 900 block of Stockton Street around 7:30 p.m., police said.

Before he could remove his ATM card, the suspect grabbed the man’s wallet and pushed him to the pavement before fleeing on foot, police said.

Central Station police officers recognized Saaga on the surveillance footage. Saaga has had “numerous prior police contacts,” police said.

Officers searched an area Saaga was known to frequent. On Friday around 5:30 p.m., they took him into custody without incident in a public parking lot at Jefferson and Mason streets, police said.

He was charged with robbery and elder abuse.

The elderly man suffered a non-life-threatening injury in his fall, police said.
