Man busted with guns at College of San Mateo to stand trial

A 30-year-old El Granada man who allegedly brought two firearms onto the College of San Mateo campus last month is scheduled to stand trial Monday.

Merit Frank Draven was arrested after cops allegedly found two firearms — including one that was loaded — in his car at a parking lot at the college on Feb. 3. There was no evidence that Draven planned to use the guns at the college, according to San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

Police were called to the campus around 2:30 p.m. after two people saw one of the guns.

Draven was allegedly also in possession of an illegal switchblade knife and a crowbar, Wagstaffe said.

Draven is out of custody on a $40,000 bail bond.
