Man busted for drunken driving after doing doughnuts

Three things that don’t mix: Drinking, driving and doughnuts.

A Bayview man was arrested Monday after crashing his car while spinning doughnuts in the 1000 block of Fitzgerald Avenue, police said.

Officers responded about 9:55 p.m. to reports of a hit-and-run accident where the driver reportedly fled on foot, police said.

Cops said they soon found the driver, who appeared distraught and admitted that he had left the scene after crashing the car. A witness positively identified the man as the driver.

The suspect told police “in a slurred manner” that he had been doing doughnuts and lost control of the car. He said when he crashed he got scared and ran away.

Officers smelled alcohol on the suspect’s breath and he reportedly appeared unsteady on his feet. He told police he had consumed a six-pack of beer and taken drugs.

The man failed all field sobriety tests and was arrested.
