Man bites another man's finger off in fight in Mission

A man bit off part of another man's finger during a fight in the Mission early Tuesday morning, Officer Grace Gatpandan said.

The 27-year-old victim was involved in a physical altercation with a man who appeared to be in his 20s or 30s in the 3100 block of Mission Street about 1 a.m., Gatpandan said.

Some time during the fight, the tip of the victim's right index finger tip was bitten off.

The suspect fled and was not arrested.

The victim was hospitalized, but his injury was not life-threatening. The piece of finger was not recovered.

The fight is believed to have escalated from an argument outside a bar, and alcohol may have been involved, Gatpandan said.
