Man assaulted, robbed on Muni bus in Excelsior

A man was assaulted and his backpack was stolen from him on a Muni bus in the Excelsior early this morning, police said.

The 24-year-old victim was on the bus near Mission Street and Silver Avenue when a 21-year-old man and 21-year-old woman reportedly demanded a beer from the victim, police Officer Gordon Shyy said.

The victim refused and the male suspect got upset and allegedly grabbed at the victim’s backpack, Shyy said.

The man then allegedly began punching the victim in the face multiple times, police said, before the female suspect allegedly got involved and started punching the victim, too.

The suspects were able to flee the bus with the victim’s backpack but were arrested a short time later and the backpack was recovered.

Officers found the two suspects at Lamartine Park, between Cayuga Avenue and Alemany Boulevard, a few blocks away from the alleged robbery, Shyy said.

They were identified by police as Donald Goodwin and Norma Estrada, both of San Francisco. Goodwin was booked on charges of robbery, conspiracy, battery and a probation violation and Estrada was booked on robbery, conspiracy and battery, Shyy said.

The victim’s injuries were not severe.
