Man arrested on arson charges after allegedly setting fire in Mission apartment building

A man was arrested on Monday for reportedly pouring gasoline in the hallway of a Mission district apartment building and then lighting it on fire, Sgt. Monica Macdonald said.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Albany resident Troy Mackey, was allegedly seen banging on the door of an apartment in the 500 block of Valencia Street about 10:05 a.m. When no one answered the door, he reportedly poured gasoline on the floor and set it on fire.

The Fire Department extinguished the small fire, Macdonald said, and it did not spread to other areas of the building.

The only damage from the fire was to the floor in front of the apartment door and the door itself, Macdonald said.

Mackey was booked into County Jail on two counts of arson, two counts of possession of flammable material with the intent to set a fire and an outstanding warrant, Macdonald said.
