Man arrested in stabbing death of Redwood City man

Redwood City police made an arrest in connection with a homicide in Courthouse Square on Tuesday.

About 8:25 p.m., officers arrived to the scene in the 2200 block of Broadway on reports of a stabbing, police said. They found a 32-year-old Redwood City man suffering from at least one stab wound.

The victim was taken to Stanford Hospital, where he died, police said.

Police were able to identify a suspect and found him in the 600 block of Warren Street not far from Courthouse Square. He was taken into custody without incident.

Police identified the suspect as 24-year-old Jake Monahan, who is a transient, they said.

The preliminary investigation concluded that Monahan and the victim knew each other and were involved in a physical altercation before the stabbing occurred, police said.

Monahan was booked into County Jail on homicide charges, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with further information is encouraged to call Detective Josh Chilton at (650) 780-7141.
