Man arrested for fatal stabbing in Outer Sunset

A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with last week’s fatal stabbing of another man in The City’s Outer Sunset neighborhood.

San Francisco resident Jackson Van Deusen is suspected of fatally stabbing Andrew Rathe, 34, also a San Francisco resident, early Friday morning, police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan said.

Officers responded to a report of a man bleeding on the sidewalk in the area of 45th Avenue and Moraga Street at about 4:10 a.m. and found Rathe suffering from multiple stab wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Police Department’s homicide unit identified Van Deusen as the suspect, and officers with the Ingleside District arrested him later that day in the unit block of Allison Street, Gatpandan said.

Van Deusen was booked into San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

The death marks The City's 15th homicide of the year.

Anyone with information about the homicide is encouraged to call the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 with SFPD at the beginning of the message.
