Man acquitted of using meter maid’s face as spittoon

The phlegmy case of an MTA parking control officer and a 29-year-old office manager was decided in favor of the spitter -- who splattered his slobber on the PCO’s cart, rather than her face.

While ire towards meter maids has resulted in violence before, Ian Atkinson, 29, was cleared of charges of battery on a code enforcement officer Thursday. Jurors also found Atkinson not guilty of lesser charges of simple battery and simple assault.

Atkinson was cited by police Aug. 27 in the 600 block of Davis Street after a shouting match about another man’s truck.

Apparently, Atkinson and a female co-worker decided to help the truck owner avoid a ticket by feeding the meter, according to the Public Defender’s Office. When Atkinson approached the officer to explain, she started yelling at him.

The officer issued the ticket, anyway, and Atkinson admittedly hawked his “loogie” towards the back of her vehicle as she drove away. The officer, however, claims the spittle was aimed at her face.

“The jury believed my client,” Deputy Public Defender Gunnar Rosenquist said about Atkinson. “The officer’s story just did not come off as truthful on the stand.”
