Man, 78, assaulted with own cane, robbed of cash in Tenderloin

A 78-year-old man was assaulted with his own cane and robbed of cash by two crooks in the Tenderloin on Tuesday, police said.

The victim was in the area of Eddy and Leavenworth streets about 12:10 p.m. when the crooks, a man who appeared to be in his 40s and a woman who appeared to be in her 30s, approached him from behind. The male suspect grabbed the victim's cane and struck him on the head, police said.

The woman then pepper sprayed the man in the face, rifled through his pockets and snatched his cash.

The crooks fled on foot and no arrests were made.

The victim was taken to the hospital for his injuries, which were not life-threatening.
