Makras appointed to city's Retirement Board

Victor Makras, veteran of several high-profile commissions including the police, fire and public utilities commissions, is off to another appointment: the Retirement Board.

The Retirement Board oversees The City’s pension fund, SFERS, which could be seeing drastic change with two ballot measures targeting city employee pay going before voters in November. The board also makes decisions about investing tens of millions of dollars to keep the pension pot healthy.

Mayor Gavin Newsom has already named a replacement for Makras on the Fire Commission. London Breed. Breed, the executive director at the African American Art & Culture Complex in the Western Addition, will be sworn in Tuesday.
