Signs of the approaching holidays are popping up around San Francisco, with buildings festooned with lights and people skating at outdoor ice rinks.

And another annual tradition starts Friday: the adoptable cats and dogs in the downtown Macy’s windows.

It’s the 26th year that the San Francisco SPCA has teamed up with Macy’s for the holiday window display, which runs from Friday through New Year’s Day.

The SPCA says the program has helped raise more than $400,000 and find homes for more than 2,600 animals.
