Lower speed limits may be in store for portions of The Embarcadero

Motorists travelling on The Embarcadero could soon be in for some slower speed limits.

At its meeting today, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency’s Board of Directors could approve a measure to reduce the speed limit on portions of The Embarcadero from 35 mph to 30 mph.

The new limits would go into affect on the shoreline road between Bay and King streets, and on King Street between Fifth Street and The Embarcadero, according to SFMTA documents.

Pedestrian advocates have said that lowered speed limits are crucial to improving safety conditions for walkers on busy arteries, such as The Embarcadero.
