Loud retort to loud music on Muni results in beating, robbery

A man was beaten and robbed on Muni's 31-Balboa bus line in the Western Addition on Friday after he reportedly yelled at a fellow passenger about his loud music, police said.

The 27-year-old victim was on a bus near Eddy and Divisadero streets about 7:20 p.m. when he told a man who appeared to be 18 to 20 years old to turn down his music. The young man said no.

The victim reportedly then said, “Turn down your fucking music!”

When the bus came to the next stop, two men entered it who reportedly knew the man playing the music. The music man pointed out the victim to his friends and they proceeded to punch the victim 10 to 15 times, police said.

After the beating, the crooks took the victim's backpack, which reportedly had clothing and a credit card in it, police said. The crooks fled to dark-colored station wagon and drove away.

No arrests have been made.

The victim sustained a laceration to the head and swelling and bruising to his eye but refused medical attention at the scene.
