Hear ye, hear ye: There’s new tabloid fodder on the horizon, her name is Lorde and she’s the anti-Taylor Swift.

The raven-haired, somewhat goth 16-year-old, who just debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with the song “Royals,” already has created controversy by seemingly dissing Swift, calling the goody-two-shoes’ “flawless” beauty “bulls***.”

“I don’t think it’s breeding anything good in young girls,” she was quoted in Gossip Cop. Now she’s backtracking, saying on Tumblr she admires Swift, and that it’s not her fault young girls compare themselves to her: “She happens to be good-looking,” Lorde says, “but I think she actually uses her other imperfections in an incredibly powerful and relatable way.”

Lorde has learned an important lesson: Anything you say is grist for the gossip mill. Welcome to fame.
