Logue clarifies: Does not support gas tax swap

Today, we reported on the difficult road ahead for the reauthorization of last year’s gas tax swap, a state budgeting move that helped restore millions of dollars for local transit agencies.

Well, it looks like the reenactment of that measure will be even harder than we initially reported.

Dan Logue, R-Linda, who sits on the state Assembly’s transportation committee, was quoted in the paper as saying he supports the reauthorization of the bill. Today, an aide from his office called The San Francisco Examiner and clarified the Assemblyman’s position: Logue, in fact, does not support the reauthorization.

The aide said that Logue would like to see tax rates returned to the levels before the gas tax swap.

Before the gas tax swap, there was no money left in the state transit assistance fund, which at one point pumped $624 million into Bay Area transit agencies.
