Local students win language contest

A team of sixth-graders from Bowditch Elementary School captured first place in the national WordMasters Challenge.

The team survived a field of 401 teams in its grade-level division to win the national language arts competition. The competition is about critical thinking and encourages students to become familiar with new words that are considerably harder than those in their grade level. It then challenges the students to use the words to complete analogies expressing various logical relationships.

In addition to winning the team championship, seven Bowditch students won highest honors for individual achievement. Only 128 sixth-graders received the honor.
