Local entrepreneur brings unique toys to Richmond district

Michelle Sidney recently opened Kookle Toy Store runs the entire shop on an in-the-cloud point-of-sale system. The store is located at 6 Clement St. in the Richmond district.

What inspired you to open a toy store? I used to be in the industry as a corporate employee. I developed my own paint-your-own nesting dolls a few years ago and knew that I wanted to go back to entrepreneurism.

What type of products do you have in stock? I have lots of arts and crafts, and interactive games. There are also classics like the whoopee cushion. I stock some eco-friendly toys made out of chemical-free wood ... and I try to support local independent artists.

How does the in-the-cloud system work? It was free from Shopkeep.com and is instant. From my computer I can access how much the store is making and the inventory. Even the credit card scanners and cash register are connected to it. It’s so efficient that I can focus my time and energy on my customers.

What are your future plans for Kookle? I want to carry more and more unique items.
