Local retailers release quarterly sales figures

Several local retailers have done well this quarter, according to corporate releases.

Gap Inc. (GPS) reported that September sales were up 4 percent for the five-week period ending Sept. 30, though comparable store sales were down3 percent.

The Gymboree Corporation (GYMB) reported net sales from retail operations for the same period of $84.1 million, an increase of 25 percent compared to net sales for the same five-week period last year.

Gymboree also announced the closure of all 17 stores in its Janeville division.

Brisbane’s Bebe Stores Inc. (BEBE) reported retail sales of $61.8 million for the five-week period ended September 30, 2006, an increase of 27.2 percent compared to sales of $48.6 million for the five-week period ended October 1, 2005.

Levi Strauss & Co. said it will announce its third-quarter results for the period ending Aug. 27 at an Internet conference call Oct. 10.

San Mateo firm hosts digital-imaging talk

Future Image Inc. of San Mateo will host the upcoming 6Sight Future of Imaging Conference on October 24 and 25 in Monterey.

The conference is co-hosted by the Photo Marketing Association International and International Imaging Industry Association, and will cover topics in the growing local field of digital imaging.

The conference will feature a financial discussion, with speakers Raj Kapoor, managing director of Mayfield Fund and former founder of Snapfish; Sam Jadallah, a general partner with Mohr, Davidow Ventures, a major investor in Shutterfly; and Patrick Chung, a principal of New Enterprise Associates.

EA turns to star power for Sims 2 release

Redwood City firm Electronic Arts (ERTS) is hoping celebrity allure will bring gamers to its new video game, The Sims 2 Pets. Actress Hilary Duff and her pet Chihuahua, Lola, are featured in the game.
