Lincoln pounds out another big victory

It might not seam like a feat that the Galileo softball team took Lincoln to a full seven innings before losing 11-0 on Thursday, but it was only the second time an Academic Athletic Association team has done that this season.

The other team was Lowell, in the Mustangs’ 12-7 win two weeks ago. Lincoln (14-1, 11-0 AAA) has ended nine of its league wins by the 10-run mercy rule.

"Galileo is a playoff team. If the playoffs started today, they’d be in it," Lincoln coach Kevin Grayson said. "They gave a good effort, so I like that we stayed focused."

Lincoln scored 11 runs on 11 hits. Christine Collins, who has pitched every game for Lincoln, notched the shutout. She struck out seven Lions (5-6, 5-6 AAA) to increase her season total to 77, while walking one and hitting her first batter of the season.

Galileo’s Nicole Lim pitched a complete game and allowed 11 runs on 11 hits.

"We were hitting the ball hard, hitting line drives. We stayed right on the ball today," Grayson said. "They’re ball players. They come out to practice every day and they want to work to get better, every single person."
