Law to ban sex offenders from social networking sites pushed

San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris and Assemblywoman Norma Torres, D-Ontario, will introduce legislation this morning that would ban registered sex offenders from using social networking sites. The legislation would “protect children and bring laws governing sexual predators in line with current technology,” the District Attorney’s Office said. San Francisco Police Lt. Daniel Leydon, who heads the SFPD’s sex crimes unit, and Oakland Police Capt. Anthony Rachal, who heads the department’s youth and family services division, are also scheduled to attend the 10:15 a.m. press conference at the Hall of Justice.
