Labor dispute: Solar projects could resume

Stalled plans to install solar panels on City Hall and other municipal facilities could move forward in late July.

The City suspended plans to place photovoltaic arrays on city facilities after a labor-related dispute last week led to protests that shut down construction of a solar power plant.

Laborers and electricians had been battling about who is entitled to complete various tasks at the Sunset Reservoir construction site. Laborers protested at the site after The City ruled in electricians’ favor.

City officials are working with unions and community groups in an effort to divide construction-related work equitably for future projects. A resolution is expected within four weeks.
