‘Kitchen Nightmares’ reality show seeks struggling SF restaurants

Fear not, struggling San Francisco restaurants, reality television is on the way.

Kitchen Nightmares,” a Fox show featuring chef Gordon Ramsay, is taking nominations from the public and restaurants owners to be featured on the next season. Each episode takes on one restaurant, and Ramsay’s advice on how it can overcome issues of poor food or service, a dwindling customer base or just competition in hard economic times.

Producer Kristin Curtin said San Francisco has not been on the show’s radar until now.

“It’s fairly well known to be a culinary, forward-thinking city,” Curtin said. “I’m hoping to find someone that needs an extra edge.”

The show will be taking nominations until the end of March, which can be submitted by emailing kitchennightmares@theconlincompany.com or calling (866) 226-2226 with the name and location of the restaurant and a short description of why it needs help. Curtin said the nomination process is confidential.

The San Francisco shows are tentatively scheduled for filming this summer and would probably air in the fall, Curtin said.
