party bounces to RAY.VS

Think of it as foreplay for the Folsom Street Fair this weekend.

Electro house DJ RAY.VS (pronounced Ray Versus) handles the sultry, bumping beats tonight for Fete de Kink –'s up-scale, bondage community soiree at Harlot.

Formal or cocktail attire required, the downtown party costs $40 a ticket and pairs the sexy, rope work of Fivestar and Bondage Erotique with sparkling wine, bites, deep house, and some rougher stuff.

RAY.VS got roped into the Kink party through a friend at his day job in the gaming industry, he says.

Born Reynaldo "Rey" Gutierrez and raised in Miami, the 31-year-old Tendernob resident moved to San Francisco five years ago following a career filming indie bands. Then-Bay Area video game web site made him "internet famous," he says. By day, he shoots for Playstation Network, the web platform for Sony's 90 million-strong gaming console community. Creating music is analogous to creating video, RAY.VS says, and producing and DJing eclectic, roughed-up, progressive house offers a new way to keep leveling up in life.

There's also a ton of crossover between the cultures of EDM and online gaming, he says. DJs like Zedd and Deadmou5 all grew up in the chatroom online. "A lot of their early demos are actually chiptunes."

RAY.VS' special weapon for breaking into clubs? A little free videography. In August, he filmed a turnt up show by Lil Jon at Mezzanine for Eye Heart SF.

"That was awesome. I loved the fact that Lil Jon is quite the nerd. He was backstage on Facebook just nerding out – a far cry from his music videos."

RAY.VS plans a series of his own music videos and an LP for late 2014.
