Kate Voegele premieres new single on ‘One Tree Hill’

Remember that great scene in the original “Stepfather” flick, where Terry O’Quinn, fresh from murdering his latest family, stares long and hard in the bathroom mirror and mutters “Waidaminnut! Who am I here?”
Kate Voegele can probably relate — sans all the killing, of course.

Where, exactly, does her solo career begin and that of her “One Tree Hill” TV character, Mia Catalono’s end?

She’s not so sure anymore.

The talented tunesmith has a new ATO Records album coming May 17 called “Gravity Happens.” But she’ll be premiering its flagship single, “Heart In Chains,” as struggling young songstress Mia on the season finale of her series the same month.

But Voegele is no “American Idol”-shallow hack, parroting other people’s lyrics on the small screen. She’s the real serious-composer deal, who started her career out of Ohio at 15, long before her 2007 “Look Away” debut got her discovered by “One Tree Hill” creator Mark Scwahn. He put her to work as Mia after just one listen, so the story goes. And — when she’s not busy taping — Voegele has begun sharing stages with the likes of Grace Potter, Patty Griffin and Neil Young himself.

Not bad for 24.

“Gravity Happens” could be the work that makes her even more of a household name.
