KaBoom's move was costly

It’s costing organizers for the KaBoom fireworks and concert event in May $2,500 more for their permit since they were forced to move from Piers 30 and 32 to the Candlestick Park parking lot.

But instead of going toward the port, the now $20,000 permit is going to Rec and Park.

And according to Rec and Park, that’s half of what it would normally cost, but it was negotiated.

KFOG, the radio station that runs the event, will also promote the show on the Web, through e-mail and on-air for the next two months. Rec and Park estimates that the promotions are worth about $20,000 of in-kind revenue.

In the meantime, organizers are still figuring out how to accommodate the commuters.
