Just-cause eviction vote postponed until next week

Supervisor John Avalos postponed a vote Tuesday on legislation that would extend just-cause eviction protections to tenants in foreclosed buildings.

Mayor Gavin Newsom had successfully vetoed legislation that would have extended just-cause eviction protections to those housing units built post-June 1979. There units are not covered by The City’s rent control laws.

Avalos, however, seems to be close to coming to an agreement with Newsom on a more toned down proposal. Avalos said Tuesday that there are “minor details to work out.”
