Jury acquits 3 in gangland slayings

A jury cleared three men of murder charges for two Visitacion Valley killings that prosecutors called a territorial battle between rival gangs.

Prosecutors said the slayings were part of an ongoing feud between two gangs about territory in the Sunnydale housing projects.

Joc Wilson, 23, Floyd Jackson, 22, and Emon Brown, 21, were indicted on charges of first-degree murder and gang and firearm enhancements.

All three were accused in the fatal shooting of Brandon Perkins, 29, on Aug. 2, 2007. Brown and Wilson also were charged with gunning down Byron Smith, 32, one month later.

The three men still face gang and gun charges, and will remain in custody.
