Jones, Washington prevail

Tierney Jones had 15 points and seven rebounds as the Washington girls’ basketball team handed Lincoln its first Academic Athletic Association loss Wednesday, a 43-36 decision.

Forwards Kandy Ifopo (eight points, seven rebounds) and Stephanie Truong (two points, 10 rebounds) helped the Eagles (4-12, 2-0 AAA) take control of a game that saw only two lead changes.

The Eagles’ strategy was to "get the ball inside and it will open up the outside," coach Vince Wong said.

The strategy was challenged when Lincoln center Monique Thomas was came into the game. Thomas had a game-high 12 rebounds and helped counter a strong Washington frontcourt. The Mustangs (11-7, 2-1), trailing 17-15 at the half, used a quick burst to open the third quarter to take a 21-19 lead. However, Washington answered the challenge, with Jones making three consecutive shots to effectively silence Lincoln.

Hallie Meneses led the Mustangs with 11 points, while Allison Yee had six points.

Lowell 52, ISA 42

Angelina Clay had 14 points and five rebounds to lead the host Cardinals (18-1, 4-0) to a win over the Cobras (9-7, 2-2).

Kim Wong added six points and Kimberly Lau (two points) spearheaded Lowell’s strong defensive effort. Brittney Allen scored 25 points for ISA to lead all scorers.
