Jogger spots a mountain lion near UC Santa Cruz

Another mountain lion has been spotted in the area surrounding the University of California, Santa Cruz, the third such sighting in the last week.

Police say a UC Santa Cruz student who was out jogging saw the mountain lion about 25 feet from a road on the campus' northern edge around noon on Tuesday.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel ( ) reports the mountain lion was not aggressive. Police issued a warning about the sighting on Tuesday, urging those who spot them to loom large, make noise and back away.

On Jan. 17, police say two hikers were on a trail in the Upper Meadows area near the campus when they saw the mountain lions about 100 to 200 yards ahead of them. They left the scene and weren't hurt.
