Jenny and Johnny are ‘Having Fun Now’

Jenny Lewis titled her debut as Jenny and Johnny (a duo she formed with her longtime beau, singer/songwriter Johnathan Rice) “I’m Having Fun Now.” A sure sign that was trouble brewing in the camp of her old outfit Rilo Kiley, who had issued their 2001 bow “Take-Offs And Landings” on Seattle’s ultrahip Barsuk Records before breaking in the Top 40 with a 2007 switch to Warner Brothers called “Under The Blacklight.”

So let’s hope she’s having a blast, because — according to her Rilo Kiley co-founder Blake Sennett — the band is officially finished.

Citing “deception, disloyalty, greed” as key reasons for the schism, the guitarist just chiseled the group’s epitaph in interviews, an end many saw coming when Lewis began making solo forays and drummer Jason Boesel joined Bright Eyes.

Boesel and Sennett will continue on under their other working moniker of The Elected, and Lewis seems more than pleased to pursue her J&J avenues. But both Lewis and Sennett were child actors (in vehicles like “Troop Beverly Hills” and “Boy Meets World,” respectively), so they learned good showbiz survival skills in their teens.

You’ll just have to follow their continued exploits separately from now on, at www.theelectedband.com and www.jennyandjohnnymusic.com.
