James Van Der Beek outbids forlorn lady for rescue dog

James Van Der Beek loves dogs, but a lady he left heartbroken at a dog shelter sure doesn’t love him.

A Los Angeles woman named Kristin Halvorsen says the “Dawson’s Creek” star used his Van Der Bucks to snatch away a Chihuahua mix she was hoping to adopt Tuesday, TMZ reported.

Van Der Beek and Halvorsen both saw the pup over the weekend at Los Angeles’ Woofstock, a charity event where shelter dogs go to sniff and be sniffed.

According to TMZ, both were told to pick up the pooch Tuesday at the shelter, where they ran into each other in what sounds like a great sitcom premise (better than “Don’t Trust the B— in Apartment 23,” anyway). Instead of sharing the dog and falling for each other, perhaps on an ABC Family show called “Puppy Love,” the two were asked to bid on the canine.

According to the New York Post, which apparently even has gossip hounds at the L.A. pound, “She was crying, but the shelter had James write down what they were willing to pay. They won. They could have had six dogs for what they paid.”

Although Halvorsen told TMZ she was heartbroken, she still posed for a picture with Van Der Beek, presumably after realizing the “Orange Is the New Black” actor had rescued her from adopting a Chihuahua.

An apparent hoax summoned a strong police response Wednesday to the home of rapper Lil Wayne after an unknown caller reported a shooting.

The call came in at 12:40 p.m. on a nonemergency line, a Miami Beach police spokesman said. The caller claimed four people had been shot at the waterfront home on an exclusive Miami Beach island.

The responding officers, including a heavily armed SWAT team, found no evidence of a shooting, no victims and no gunman. Police also said Lil Wayne was not there at the time.

The department said in a tweet that the phony call was an example of “swatting,” in which people call in a false crime report to police in order to trigger a massive response.
